The primary approaches to counseling that I use are:

  • A Strengths based approach identifies the positive resources and abilities that individuals and their families possess. This approach can be especially helpful if you are feeling “stuck” with particular issue.
  • CBT is based on the idea that by changing the way we think about the world, ourselves and the future, we can change our experience of all three. It also emphasizes the client (you) taking an active role in the change process.
  • Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) includes a combination of experiences and activities with horses as well as talking about what those experiences mean to you.  EAP activities include observations over the fence and in paddocks, pastures, and various enclosed areas, observing demonstrations, herd walks, grooming, leading, groundwork interactions, basic horsemanship skills, and quiet time spent in the presence of equine(s). Horses are herd animals and are interested in relationships and connection. They are also prey animals so they need trust to feel safe and secure. Horses present opportunities to learn about ourselves and build healthy connections.
  • Ecotherapy also called Nature Therapy, include quiet time in nature, meditation and sensory awareness exercises.
